Flying

I got my private pilot’s certificate in 1995. I always wanted to fly and approached the process as challenging and adventurous. I learned on a grass strip west of Gainesville, FL, in small single-engine Cessna 150 and 152 aircraft. I progressed to larger planes, complex aircraft (landing gear, prop pitch), and the Gainesville airport. I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, learned to fly in the mountains, and got my instrument rating. My instructor was an amazing person, Bob Allan. We flew in all weather and had a blast! He taught me not just about flying a plane but about life too. I miss Bob.

I first went to Leadville, Colorado, by flying there, the highest airport in North America.

Hang gliding in North Florida for fun, getting towed up.
I am flying with Bobby. He’s pretty intent on not dying. Bobby’s claim to fame is as a 1988 Olympic Cycling Sprinter.
I am flying with Nicole. We made a little trip from Langley AFB to Kitty Hawk, NC, to visit the first powered airplane flight site.
I am coming into land at Kitty Hawk and am a little left of the centerline.
Selfie time! We’re on the ground.
Nicole and I are in front of the Wright Brothers Monument.
The monument is seen from the sky.
Langley AFB. The AFB is in the foreground, while NASA Langley Research Center is in the upper right.
I am refueling our sky chariot.
Nicole thought I didn’t know where the landing gear was.
The proof of my first trip to Leadville, CO.

I found some old photos. I have more, but they are slides, and I’m too lazy to digitize them.
