I met Emy through Ian on around day three. Emy is a professional mermaid; she has her own company in Tucson, where she works at parties and theme parks as a swimming mermaid. Emy brightens everyone’s day with her charm and upbeat attitude.
Emy put sparkles are just about everything and accepted the trail name Sparkles. Seeing Emy always made me smile because all her sparkles enhanced her whimsical nature and life.
Emy has backpacked before but is relatively new at it. She constantly compared her gear with others and had a reason to. Her tent and clothes were heavy. However, she did very well getting some of her equipment used and cheaper than expensive retail. She reminded me of when I started, but a 50-pound pack was usual in those days.
She had to get off the trail for work and injuries around Oracle. I hope she stays at it and stops comparing herself with others. Emy likes hiking with others, so she needs to find a local group that makes some short backpacking trips. She’ll be able to dial in her gear.
